Embarking on the legendary Laugavegur Trail in Iceland is an adventure like no other.  Rated by National Geographic as one of the best hikes in the world, we will back pack 34 miles of this epic landscape. This self-guided back packing trek will take us through some of the planet's most dramatic landscapes, where the weather can shift in minutes—sunshine one moment, fierce winds and rain the next. Every day brings a new challenge as we back pack, traversing rugged terrain from volcanic deserts to steaming geothermal valleys, across snowfields, rivers, and rocky hills. The midnight sun stretches the days into endless light. Hiking under a sky that never fully darkens brings a surreal sense of time.  Make sure you have a camera in hand as we trek through ever-changing landscapes—majestic glaciers, steaming geothermal valleys, black sand deserts, and vibrant green hills. Each day ends at a the huts where we’ll camp outside in our tents reflecting on the surreal beauty that surrounds us. The unpredictable weather only adds to the excitement, with misty rains giving way to clear skies perfect for capturing epic photos. Every step on this journey is an experience of raw, untamed nature at its finest.

Our adventure kicks off with a bus ride from Reykjavik to the Laugavegur Trailhead on 7/3/2025 for a 5-day, 4-night journey into Iceland’s wild side. We’ll camp at Landmannalaugar the first night to get settled and ready to hit the trail the next day. Each day, we’ll hike through epic scenery, setting up camp at designated hut areas, with the option for extra side hikes if you’re up for a challenge! We’ll cook breakfast and dinner at camp, while lunch is ready to go on the trail. Water is available along the way, with fresh refills at each hut. After conquering the trail, we’ll celebrate with a group dinner at the local trail restaurant before hopping on the bus back to Reykjavik.

This is not a beginner backpacking trip. All participants should be familiar with the rigors of backpacking, arrive in top physical condition and be prepared to spend 4+ consecutive days backpacking in a remote wilderness setting with minimal amenities.

Logistics: You will need to be in Reykjavik on July 3, 2025 by 9 am with all the gear needed for the adventure. You can arrange for any flights home after 5pm on 7/8 or best bet 7/9. I will be flying out of Dulles most likely on 7/1/2025 to ensure I am there before 7/3.  If anyone wants to fly with me and or split costs for others for the night of 7/2/2025 fill out the info on the registration.

This will not be easy with the incline and water crossings but it will be an experience that will have you saying "I can't believe I just did that!".   Join me as I prepare to knock another international trail off my list.
