Cuba: Meeting with the People

Cuba Photography by:  The Red Headed Nomad

Cuba is a place frozen in time without the first world consumer culture we currently live in. History and connection is thriving on every corner. Old American street cars cascade down every street.  Cuba has a plethora of natural places, crystal sand beaches, and epic mountains.  This trip to Cuba is to connect with the people, get back to the roots of basic living, learn about  their culture, and give back to the Cuban people.  Over the course of 7 days we will sink into the heart of the Cuban Culture and immerse ourselves in a world full of rhythms and traditions.

Trip Summary

Over the course of 6 days we will be exploring Havana, Vinales and a few places in between. This is NOT a tourist trip.  We will be traveling using local transportation and we will be in street photography heaven.  From cooking with the locals to walking through the tobacco fields, to sleeping in Cuban fashion, this will be a cultural experience you will not forget.

We will land and spend the first few days in and around Havanna. Capturing epic sunsets and sunrises on the Malecon, to taking classic car rides through the tunnels, to exploring the El Morro Castle. Before heading to Vinales  we will see the Revolutionary Museum and a Rum Tour.

While in Vinales we will hang out with the locals for a tobacco tour and horseback riding along while spending time in the caves.  Relaxing at the Cayo Jutias (one of Cuba's best beaches) will wind down this trip until its time to head back to Havana for the flights home.

Getting there

  • I offer discounted group airline travel out of Washington D.C as long as there is a minimum of 10 travelers participate.  This is included in the package price if you choose this option. I will make all the arrangements. You will be required to make your own travel arrangements to and from the DC airport.   All airlines will be well known, ones I have personally flown on. Seats will be chosen after ticket is issues which is usually 60 days prior to trip.  Group seats are all coach with options to upgrade at your own expense after tickets are issues.   Group airline requires a $200 non refundable deposit to secure your ticket which is due 60 days after initial deposit date. There will be a payment schedule if needed to pay your airline ticket off.  Once all group tickets are paid for, they are all issued to each individual traveler.

  • Typical group savings have airfares with bags included and up to a 30% savings over individual travel. We do need 10 people to participate in group travel in order to secure the rates.  If we do not have 10 people airline tickets are booked by the individual traveller and pricing is variable dependent on airline travel costs.

  • For this culture trip I do not recommend booking your own tickets due to restrictions/regulations. However if you do you need to be there at the designated time.

  • If you are not able to get to Washington DC for air travel, I will be more than happy to search airline fare close to our group rates, get you to the destination and meet up with the group
